HERAS organized a Roundtable & Workshop on “Status quo of Research and Innovation development in Kosovo: Thoughts for Kosovo’s future R&I”

On 15th of November 2019 HERAS organized a Roundtable & Workshop with the topic “Status quo of Research and Innovation development in Kosovo: Thoughts for Kosovo’s future R&I”. The event gathered more than 50 participants coming from governmental institutions, international organizations in Kosovo, higher education and research institutions, NGOs, researchers, and international and local experts. His excellency, the Ambassador Christoph Weidinger and the General Secretary of Ministry of Education Science and Technology Ekrem Kastrati opened the event which then was followed with the presentations from Austria, Montenegro, and other cases that were relevant for the event. Main purpose of the event though, was launching of the report on Mapping Research and Innovation system in Kosovo which could be accessed at the following link: (https://www.heraskosovo.org/publications/Concept_document_Mapping_of_the_Research_and_Innovation_System_in_Kosovo.pdf). This report is a first ever attempt to provide a first picture of present R&I system in Kosovo, including the challenges and gaps it actually has. While, the Roundtable provided a forum of discussion on key challenges that the Research and Innovation system in Kosovo is facing. In addition, the workshop provided space for a multi-stakeholder approach to reflect on the future steps that the Government of Kosovo should take in order to enhance the R&I system in Kosovo and facilitate integration of the country to the European Research Area (ERA). HERAS will provide the conclusions of this event in a policy brief with measures and steps to follow up on the new strategy on R&I. This paper will be presented at the new Government structures and modalities of following up their implementation will be sought.
