On 3 & 4 September 2019, HERAS in cooperation with Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MEST) organized two-days’ workshop for the finalization of the new law for the KAA. The objective of the new law is to establish an independent institution in accordance with the European Standards for Quality Assurances, which will ensure quality at higher education institutions (HEIs) that: 1) play an important role in the development and oversight of the accreditation process in all HEIs; and 2) provision of legal infrastructure that will enable the accreditation process to be administered independently and autonomously so that the designated institutions have full responsibility for their processes, management and decisions. The attendees of the workshop were the official members of the working group established by MEST which is in charge of the drafting the law.
The workshop came as a result of 20 meetings in a row organized by the MEST with an aim of giving final expert inputs by HERAS experts, in order the law is finalized and proceeded further to the next stages. HERAS is part of the official group and will continue to support and provide additional expertise until the law is fully adopted by the government, respectively by the Assembly.
