On 20 February 2018, the HERAS team attended the kick-off event of the advanced Programmatic Partnership project “Treatment of pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia with a modified resource-conserved BFM protocol in Kosovo” that will be implemented between the Medical Faculty of the University of Prishtina and Medical University of Graz. The project was launched by the project coordinator of the Austrian partner, Mr. Emir Q. Haxhija and project coordinator of Kosovan partner, Mr. Bardhyl Abrashi. Present at the event were also staff of the Hematology-Oncology Unit, Department of Pediatric, Prishtina Clinical University Center. HERAS team Ms. Arbresha Meha, Project Officer addressed the event officially and congratulated the winning partners.
During the event, the project team presented results achieved with the HIGHERKOS Programmatic Partnership (predecessor of HERAS project) in implementation of the new protocol and training of the all physicians from the Hematology Oncology Ward of Prishtina in Medical University of Graz. During this advanced Programmatic Partnership the project intends to further advance the treatment of children sick of acute lymphoblastic leukemia, complete the analysis of the data, teach two doctors and the local laboratory technician from Prishtina Oncology Unit to perform the flow cytometry investigation themselves, so that they can independently diagnose leukemia. In summary, all these efforts will provide a substantial improvement of collaboration and experience of all partners and improve the treatment options for children in Kosova.
HERAS team will follow-up and monitor the implementation of this important project.
